Ceremonial First Gas Activation in Batangas City

The Malampaya deep-water project achieved a major milestone. Officials commenced natural gas delivery from Phase 4 development wells. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and industry leaders gathered in Batangas City. They marked the ceremonial first gas activation at the Onshore Gas Plant. This expansion integrates new production wells to bolster national energy security. Furthermore, it reduces historical vulnerability to external market shocks.

Unlocking Recoverable Natural Gas Reserves

The Phase 4 initiative unlocked 222 billion cubic feet of reserves. Operators completed drilling and testing for Malampaya East-1 and Camago-3 wells. These reserves generate roughly 31.46 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. This output meets annual needs for 13.11 million Filipino households. Additionally, the project extends the operational lifespan of the indigenous gas field.

Harnessing Local Energy Resources

Officials emphasized that harnessing local energy resources is crucial. Domestic production helps stabilize electricity rates during international fuel price fluctuations. By expanding domestic capabilities, the country insulates its economy from geopolitical tensions. Consequently, strategic investments in critical energy infrastructure ensure long-term grid reliability across the Philippines.
