While the final stages of commissioning are still ongoing, the power plant will be running at 130 MW and providing renewable electricity to the grid.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next two months, modifications will be done to address vibrations in a section of the steam separation plant. Once commissioned, Tauhara \u2013 the largest single shaft geothermal turbine power station in the world \u2013 is expected to operate at around 152MW. Further modifications are then planned to be done during the first planned outage, scheduled for October 2025, to secure long-term generation of 174MW.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the Tauhara geothermal power project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/contact-energy-to-drill-several-appraisal-wells-on-the-tauhara-geothermal-field\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were first reported back in 2019<\/a>, with its initial planned capacity of 152 MW\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/contact-energy-ups-size-of-tauhara-geothermal-project-to-168-mw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increased to 168 MW<\/a>\u00a0after the reservoir was evaluated to be more productive than expected. Electricity from the power plant will be sold to Genesis Energy under\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/long-term-ppa-signed-for-tauhara-geothermal-project-nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a 15-year PPA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Contact is also working on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/contact-energy-announces-new-51-mw-geothermal-project-in-nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 51-MW Te Huka geothermal power plant<\/a> which is scheduled to go online in Q4 2024, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/contact-energy-reevaluating-plans-for-wairakei-geothermal-development-new-zealand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the replacement of the Wairakei A&amp;B geothermal power station<\/a>.
