Baths operator B\u00e4derbetrieb Oldenburg<\/a> has assigned drilling specialist Daldup & S\u00f6hne AG<\/a> to drill exploratory and doublet drilling for geothermal wells that will supply sustainable heat to a new sports and health pool at Fl\u00f6tenteich in the city of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony, Germany. The drilling is scheduled to being by the fourth quarter of 2024.<\/p>\n

The project, which will be carried out in two phases, has a total order volume of around EUR 5 million. The wells to be drilled will have lengths of approximately 1,400 each. With the medium-depth geothermal project, Oldenburg will be a pioneer of climate-neutral heat supply in western Lower Saxony.<\/p>\n

The Oldenburg public baths have set themselves the goal of operating the newly constructed year-round public baths independently of fossil fuels and with as little CO2 emissions as possible. The thermal water, with an expected temperature of about 50\u00b0C, shall be used in combination with large heat pumps to heat the new sports and health bath at the Oldenburger Fl\u00f6tenteich as climate-neutral as possible.<\/p>\n

Approval for the project was granted by the State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology<\/a> (LBEG) in early 2024. The permit allows for drilling to a depth of 1200 meters. According to the \u201cGeofakten 41\u201d report published by LBEG, the number of licensed fields for geothermal exploration in Lower Saxony has greatly increased since 2022<\/a>, indicating great interest in the implementation of deep geothermal projects.<\/p>\n
