Local utility company Sinergy<\/a> will be conducting a seismic survey to evaluate the potential geothermal resources in the municipality of Martigny in Valais, Switzerland. The seismic survey will be take place on the evenings and nights from the 22nd to 31st of July 2024 and will be carried out by Geo2X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Information from the seismic survey will go towards subsurface mapping of the geothermal resource in Martigny. The target of the utility is to tap into a hydrothermal resource by drilling to a maximum depth of 1500 meters, where an aquifer at temperatures of 45 to 60 \u00b0C is expected.<\/p>\n

Similar operations had been initiated by the canton of Valais in 1991 and 2014 with very positive results. \u00a0This new survey will make it possible to make measurements more precise and create a 3D map of the subsurface at a depth of around 1,000 meters. Seismic surveys had recently been done to great success in various parts of Switzerland including Lausanne<\/a>, Geneva<\/a>, Magglingen<\/a>, and Yverdon-les-Bains<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sinergy is organizing a public information session on the 20th of July 2024 for those who want to ask questions to the experts, as well as the representatives of Geo2x. The progress of the seismic survey can be checked online via the Sinergy website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
