The Asociaci\u00f3n Geot\u00e9rmica Mexicana<\/a> (AGM) recently concluded the XXX Annual Geothermal Congress in the City of Morelia in Michoac\u00e1n, Mexico. With about 150 local and international participants, the event provided an opportunity for the geothermal community to meet, network, and learn from each other to aid in advancing the Mexican geothermal sector.<\/p>\n

During the opening ceremony, Dr Georgina Izquierdo Montalvo, General Director of the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL) highlighted how geothermal provides a pathway not just for reducing carbon emissions, but also for reducing regional inequalities and poverty in general.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the energy transition, it is essential to gradually reduce greenhouse emissions, including CO2, both from industries and from transportation and conventional electricity generation; as well as the gradual substitution of fuels with less impact on the environment. However, the construction of an agenda for the energy transition implies not only reducing CO2 and other emissions, but also benefiting the communities and towns where energy originates,\u201d<\/em> said Dr Izquierdo.<\/p>\n

Dr Izquierdo also highlighted the contributions of INEEL to various research initiatives on renewable energies, as well as the work that the agency does in consolidating the use of clean and renewable energies as technically and economically viable options for electricity generation.<\/p>\n

At the end of the event, the new board of the AGM was sworn in as part of the organization\u2019s 30th General Assembly. Eng. Juan Ignacio Estrella assumed the position of the President with the following as part of the 2024-2026 board:<\/p>\n
