Hot water at 55 \u00b0C has been tapped at 480 meters depth by a test drilling conducted at the town of \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in the Westfjords region of northwest Iceland. While the plan is for the well to be drilled deeper to 700 meters, the results so far are a good sign that the people of \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur can soon transition away from burning gas for heating.<\/p>\n

The results were confirmed by\u00a0Gu\u00f0mundur \u00c1rmann B\u00f6\u00f0varsson, manager of the Floa og Skei\u00f0 Farming Association, the contractor that conducted the drilling. \u201cThis exploratory drilling has been going on for the past summer. Today, at 480 meters, there was suddenly a quantity of water that measured 55 degrees.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Project owner Orkub\u00fa\u00f0 and drilling consultant ISOR<\/a> nevertheless decided that the well can be used for heating. The results from the well are also indicative that there is more hot water in the area.<\/p>\n
