The Geothermal Development Company<\/a> (GDC) is set to receive a EUR 5 million grant from the newly launched Green Resilient Electricity System Programme. GDC will use the funds for capacity building in \u201cSustainable Project Management\u201d in a bid to ensure timely and successful implementation of the Baringo-Silali geothermal project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Green Resilient Electricity System Programme will support Kenya\u2019s goal of a complete transition to 100% clean power generation by 2030. BY providing critical investments and capacity-building measures, it hopes to expand the country\u2019s production of green electricity thus improving grid stability and energy security.<\/p>\n

The Programme was launched by the European Commissioner for Energy,\u00a0Kadri Simson\u00a0and Kenya\u2019s Cabinet Secretary of Energy and Petroleum\u00a0Hon.\u00a0Davis Chirchir,\u00a0<\/strong>at a side-event of the just concluded 9th<\/sup> IEA Global Conference on Energy Efficiency that took place in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

The Programme has been developed under EU\u2019s Global Gateway<\/a> initiative in close cooperation with the Kenyan government and the Team Europe partners German investment bank KfW<\/a> and the European Investment Bank<\/a> (EIB). It will provide technical assistance and capacity building for the Kenyan implementing partners to ensure the successful and timely implementation of the project components.<\/p>\n

At the conference, the GDC delegation was led by the Managing Director & CEO Mr. Paul Ngugi. He was accompanied by Acting General Manager, Strategy, Research & Innovation Eng. Martha Mburu, and Project Management Engineer, Moses Kachumo.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy making the Kenyan energy system more resilient, efficient and clean, the programme definitely contributes to Kenya\u2019s energy and climate goals, powering socio-economic growth and transformation, as well as, supporting green industrialisation, employment and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions,\u201d<\/em> said CS Davis Chirchir during the event.<\/p>\n
