{"id":18342,"date":"2024-04-18T03:00:40","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T03:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/energybuzz.ph\/staging\/6915\/vulcan-energy-reports-progress-on-geothermal-lithium-operations-in-germany\/"},"modified":"2024-04-18T03:00:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T03:00:40","slug":"vulcan-energy-reports-progress-on-geothermal-lithium-operations-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/energybuzz.ph\/staging\/6915\/vulcan-energy-reports-progress-on-geothermal-lithium-operations-in-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Vulcan Energy reports progress on geothermal lithium operations in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/v-er.eu\/\">Vulcan Energie Ressourcen GmbH<\/a> (Vulcan Energy) has recently made two announcements on their geothermal lithium operations in Germany \u2013 the first extraction of lithium chloride from the company\u2019s Landau facility, and the topping-out ceremony of their facility in Frankfurt-H\u00f6chst.<\/p>\n<p>The Lithium Extraction Optimization Plant (LEOP) in Landau has officially entered the production phase, having produce Lithium Chloride (LiCl) for the first time. Early results using the Adsorption-type Direct Lithium Extraction (A-DLE) unit indicates lithium extraction efficiency that is consistently over 90%, in line with commercial plant expectations and Vulcan\u2019s financing model.<\/p>\n<p>The LEOP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/vulcan-to-open-lithium-extraction-optimization-plant-in-landau-germany\/\">was officially opened in 2023<\/a>, and was recognized recently by the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) as<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/vulcan-energy-wins-2024-ruggero-bertani-geothermal-innovation-award\/\"> the recipient of the 2024 Ruggero Bertani European Geothermal Innovation Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_59724\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59724\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-59724\" src=\"https:\/\/energybuzz.ph\/staging\/6915\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-1024x576-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/energybuzz.ph\/staging\/6915\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-1024x576-1.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-400x225.png 400w, https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner-600x338.png 600w, https:\/\/www.thinkgeoenergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Vulcan-Energy-EGIA-winner.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-59724\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vulcan Energy Managing Director Horst Kreuter accepts the 2024 Ruggero Bertani Geothermal Innovation Award (source: EGEC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Start of Production (SOP) follows over three years and more than 10,000 hourse of in-house pilot test by Vulcan, as well as more than EUR 40 million in investment. The LEOP will serve as an optimization and operation training and product qualification testing facility, eventually creating operational readiness for the Phase One commercial facility.<\/p>\n<p>The LiCl produced at the LEOP will then be transported to the \u00a0Central Lithium Electrolysis Optimisation Plant (CLEOP) in Frankfurt-H\u00f6chst for processing. In this facility, the LiCl will be converted to battery-grade Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate (LHM). Vulcan Energy had also recently celebrated the Topping-Out Ceremony at the CLEOP, signifying the installation of the highest point of facility\u2019s structural frame.<\/p>\n<p>The CLEOP is expected to be operational by mid-2024. At this point, Vulcan Energy would have had created the first fully integrated supply chain for lithium battery chemical in Europe with the co-production of renewable energy and heat.
