The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Nicaragua has announced an international tender for companies specializing in deep well drilling. The tender, entitled “Deep well drilling in the geothermal area of the Cosigüina volcano”, aims to promote the development of geothermal energy in the region.

Companies interested in participating must submit their proposals before the deadline, set for the 19th of August, 2024. It is important to note that only physical deliveries will be accepted and the proposals must be written in Spanish.

The geothermal area of the Cosigüina volcano, known for its energy potential, represents a significant opportunity for the development of renewable energy sources in the country. This initiative is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Mines to diversify the energy matrix and promote the use of sustainable natural resources.

The IDB had announced a tender for pre-feasibility studies in the Cosigüina geothermal area back in 2020. The Government of Nicaragua had previously sought the assistance of IDB in the execution of pre-investment studies in Cosigüina and other geothermal areas.

For more information on the tendering rules and specific requirements for submitting proposals, interested parties may visit the Ministry’s official website, contact it directly through the enabled channels, or through the following official document (link).
