Following the 2024 Iceland Geothermal Conference, geothermal service provider and developer GMK Enerji (GMK) has announced a collaboration with high-temperature geothermal technology specialist Hephae Energy Technology (Hephae). The collaboration will be centered around the testing and deployment of Hephae’s advanced high-temperature drilling technology in GMK’s geothermal development projects in Türkiye.

GMK holds valuable geothermal development licenses in Turkiye, representing significant potential for development of clean and renewable geothermal energy generation. The company has had involvement in the Turkish geothermal sector since 2017. More recently, GMK signed an agreement with Bestepeler Enerji Üretim Ticaret A.S. for the installation of Thermosoft, a power plant optimization software, in the 24-MW Kubilay Geothermal Power Plant.

Hephae’s high-temperature geothermal drilling system aims to to improve and optimize well performance from geothermal reservoirs through improved reliability and higher energy recovery. Hephae had recently signed a strategic partnership with directional drilling services provider Well Guidance to collaborate on the commercialization of the Pandora 210 MWD system.

The two companies believe that the integration of Hephae’s expertise and technology with GMK’s geothermal development initiatives will result in significant advancements in, and improvements in the economics of, geothermal energy extraction.
